Create the perfect Breakfast in Bed

Have you heard off hygge living? Hygge (pronounced hue-guh) is a Danish concept of finding comfort, pleasure, and warmth in simple, soothing things such as a cozy atmosphere or the feeling of friendship. If that doesn't shout breakfast in bed on a wintry day, I honestly don't know what does. Start your morning with a breakfast in bed like the one I'm about to describe below, and your day will be off to a fantastic start. Do it for your husband, your kids, or, you know, print this guide out and leave it around somewhere so your husband sees it and gets the hint ;)

1. Grab something to read!
I know this is probably not on the top of your list for a breakfast in bed, however if you're a bookworm like me, this is the first thing on all of your lists :). Whether this is a breakfast for your husband (does he read the newspaper?), one for your kids (a picture book?), or one for yourself (a book of poetry?), something to read should be included on your tray. It's just a little something, but it's a really thoughtful addition to include. Slow down, read, eat, & truly enjoy this moment.
(If your loved one really doesn't like to read, include a little handwritten note instead!)

2. Get a tray to deliver your breakfast on
If you're going to be "delivering" a breakfast in bed, you definitely need something to carry it on. My favorite tray is this one because it's lightweight, yet still sturdy (and obviously so cute). If, however, you don't have a tray and aren't looking to buy one, you can use a large cutting board. Baskets also make a cute choice, but that depends on how you're going to serve things. Baskets will need to be served in more of a picnic fashion.
3. Make it Homemade
Things become so much more special when you put your own time and effort into making it from scratch. Waking up a little earlier to make homemade waffles, cutting up fruit, and making eggs & bacon will be well worth your effort. And don't forget the garnish! Garnish can make even the simplest things look extra special (sprinkles & whipped cream, powdered sugar, sprinkle of cinnamon, etc.).
You got this!

4. Think outside the box
If your loved one eats eggs every morning or pancakes every Sunday, switch it up! Make something special and unique. Does he love waffles but you don't have a waffle maker? Does she love french toast but only ever gets it when you go out for brunch? This is your time to really show your love. If you're going to go through the effort of making a breakfast in bed, you might as well make it special.

5. Include flowers
If you know you're going to be preparing a breakfast in bed the next day, go out and grab some fresh flowers. There's something about bringing nature inside that makes us feel happier (really, it's true!). So put a few flowers in a mini vase and include it on your tray with breakfast.
6. A special drink
Is there a special drink that your loved one really only gets to drink on special occasions? This could be juice, sparkling cider, champagne, mimosa, latte, etc. Make it for them! But, you should also add their regular drink (tea, coffee, water), because let's be honest, you don't want to take away someone's coffee! If you are delivering tea/coffee, make it special by adding little cups of milk and sugar to the tray. Maybe provide a teapot so they can refill it themselves. It's the little things that make it extra special.
7. Splurge on nice dishware
Again, it's all in the little details. Don't serve your love breakfast-in-bed on paper plates. You can make a beautiful breakfast that took you an hour to make, but serve it on a paper plate and it will lose all it's lovely splendor. This is something that's easily overlooked, but be sure to use your best dishes, and your finest china.

8. And don't forget the cloth napkin
You've gotten this far, don't forget this fine detail! Don't have cloth napkins? Don't stress! Drape a clean tea towel across the tray. This is a small detail that will really turn the whole experience into one that is elegant beyond this world.

I truly hope you have an amazing morning! And don't forget to pass this on so you can inspire someone else to spread the love. We can always use a little more love in our days.
Enjoy your breakfast!
Love Always,
Lauren Elizabeth
