How to Make yourself a HAPPY ROUTINE

Updated: Mar 11, 2022

To me, one of the most important things in life is happiness. But to be honest, lately I've been struggling with that. I find myself with so much anxiety (maybe even a little depression), but I need to learn how to take a deep breathe and just focus on the things I can control. Work on making myself and my family happy.

But we can't be happy unless we really take the time to understand what makes us happy. We all think we know what makes us happy, but it's not until we are really forced to sit down and jot things down that we realize who we truly are at the core.

So I'd like to introduce to you, an exercise that will help you really figure out what matters in your life. After you figure out what makes your happy, you can work on making your very own happiness routine. What's a happiness routine? It's like any other routine, but it encourages happiness and peace in your daily life.

So if you're anything like me, you love exercises that will help you grow into a better, happier person, and this will help you do just that!

Step 1

Grab a blank sheet of paper and a few different writing utensils. You should have a few that are light/blah colors, and a few that are bright/exciting colors!

I used this "mini" sketchbook (but any paper will work) - Pacon UCreate Poly Cover Sketch Book, $4.68

The awesome markers I used are these - Double Line Outline Pens, $11.99

And for the "blah words", you can use a pencil, but if you want something more permanent, I love these journaling pens. I used the brown and grey colors from this pack - iBayam Journal Planner Pens, $7.99

Step 2

Grab your pencil or lighter markers and write down everything you dislike.

Step 3

Now grab your brighter markers and write over all those "bad" words with things that make you happy!

Step 4

Take a separate sheet of paper, a notebook would be best, and create two columns; one for the happy items and one for the annoying.

Step 5

Mark each item on the list as something you think you'd like to start incorporating daily, weekly & monthly. You will find some items on the list won't be able to fit into a regular routine, so these are great to mark down as a "what to do if you're having a bad day" list, or an "if you have time on the weekends" list. Other things on the list may need to be marked as "research" items. These are things you may want to work on getting better at or learning more about.

Step 6

Once you have everything marked down, create a schedule.

Follow this schedule and you will find there is more happiness in your day-to-day life, less stress & anxiety, and a greater sense of peace. However, in order truly reap all the benefits, you need to let yourself fully submerge yourself in the activity you are doing. Don't think about all the laundry that needs to be done. Sit down, relax and be in the moment.

Step 6

Highlight the things that you want to research and get better at. These are items that don't have a place in your day-to-day happy routine, but are still important to you. Work on educating yourself about one item at a time until you get better at it, and then move onto the next.

This is a great activity for people of all ages. It can also help kids who are struggling with anxiety or feelings of sadness. Do this activity as frequently as you'd like, as we are always changing.

Please let me know how this worked out for you and if you enjoyed it!
